El rey que muncho madruga   ande la reina se ía.

The king who arose early   appeared before the queen

La reina staba durmiendo   con sus cabellos dešechos.

The queen was sleeping   with her hair disarrayed.

La topaba en el espejo,   mirando su hermosura,

He found her with a mirror,   looking at her beauty, 

y dando loores al d'en Alto,   que tan lucia la hay criado.

and praising the Most High   who had created her so fair.

El rey por burlar con ella   dos dadicas le hay dado.

The king, joking with her,   gave her two little taps.

- State, state, Andaleto,   tú me sos primer namorado.

- Stop, stop, Andaleto,   you are my first lover.

Dos hijicos míos tengo   y dos del rey se hacen cuatro,

I have two sons   and those of the king make four,

los del rey comen desparte,    y los tuyos con mí al lado,

The king's sons eat separately,   and yours at my side,

los del rey visten de sirma,   los tuyos, sirma y brocado,

The king's sons wear gold embroidery,   yours wear embroidery and brocade,

los del rey benean mula,   los tuyos mula y caballo,

The king's sons ride on mules,   yours ride on horses,

los del rey van a la guerra   y los tuyos al mi lado.

The king's sons go to war,   yours stay at my side.

Ella q'avoltó su cara,   al rey se lo topó 'n su lado.

She turned around,   and found the king there.

- Perdón, perdón, siñor rey,   esfueño y m'hay soñado.

- I beg your pardon, my Lord King,   I was asleep and dreaming.

El rey esvanió su spada   la cabeza l'hay cortada.

The king drew his sword   and beheaded her.

- Ya te lo pedroní, mi reina,   con un yerdán corelado.

I have pardoned you, my queen,   with a scarlet collar.
